There was a blow for the Briton Edward Brand, the leader after qualifying and the heats, when he was immediately forced to retire. New Zealander Joshua Hart took the opportunity to jump ahead of the Canadian Pier-Luc Ouellette. In the pack, it went wrong at the start for another favorite, the South African Caleb Williams. The 2009 winner was forced to retire, while the Canadian Philippe Gelinas – seen in the World Championship for Formula Super A in 2001 – lost several places.
The French drivers Alexandre Benoit Bessac and Antoine Barthon made a good starts. Bessac climbed to 4th position, but he dropped two places against faster opponents, while resisting the rapid Estonian Aavo Talvar. As for Barthon, he lost the benefit of its super start, finding himself in the grass in a spirited pack and settled for 21st place.
At the front, Ouellette thought he would win, but Hart took over the lead at the end. The positions were settled behind, between the Austrian Ferenc Kancsar, Dane Kasper Jensen and the American Daniel Formal. A member of the lead pack early in the race, the Canadian Hugo Ouellette dropped to 14th after contact with another driver.
